Stay Hungry

This past weekend found me taking abbreviated breaks at work due to extreme business volume combined with my damn near insane work ethic or no break at all. Fast forward to a ravenous version of me arriving at Wally's that evening.

I like my father need to have fuel in my furnace and a hungry Duke is not a fun one to be around. When I find myself in this scenario, I err towards the quickest and easiest way to resolve this problem which began to look like hoofing it to the McDonald's not far from his condo.

Wally offered me a veggie burger to which I grouchily replied "no". I was not to be stopped. I headed out the door only to discover that McDonalds had closed up early in observation of the holiday. Tired and defeated I came back sans McMeal. Seeing my quandary, Wally suggested I order take-out from a local restaurant which I did and let me just say that they have a delicious jalapeno burger.

But enough about that. The real gem of this evening was the party Wally's roommate David took us to. The setting was a done up like Andy Warhol meets the Bellagio Hotel and Casino . The front room had silver mylar balloons suspended from the ceiling and spilling down the wall. The hall was lined with a reflective plastic surface. Towards the back was a white female mannequin sitting atop a bar with a strand of pearls and silver sequined hat.

Historically for me, New Year's Eve is one of those evenings which can be a bit of a letdown, which I believe happens when expectations far outweigh the end result. However, there are also those spontaneous ones that just happen and you end up recounting them because they were special. This would end up being one of those nights.

It wasn't until someone switched on the television right before the ball dropped that Wally and I ran to the front room and counted down five, four, three, two, one and kissed under the balloons that 2006 dissolved and became 2007.

Suffice to say I worked New Year's Day and although I was a bit worse for wear I toughed it out, had a strong day at work and yes, no lunch.
