mon.ankle

I went to see Dr. Slotts today as my right ankle has been tender for the past few days. Truth be told too, that I really did not wish to unload another truck full of boxes at 6am this morning given this discomfort.

Figuring it best for him to look at it he asked if I recalled any unusual actions within the past few days. I couldn't remember anything specific other than bumping into a few objects at work (they had it out for me), resulting in minor cuts and bruises (I guess that's where the bruise on my hip is from?), it turns out it's tendinitis, which is the result from too much time spent on my feet, the need for new shoes (mom you were right) and the simple fact that the big 4-0 is right around the corner.

sidewalk.talk

Overheard on Clark Street. "They're just going to have to deal with my laissez-faire racism."

What does that mean?! Discuss.

whooo.whooo

Somewhere between decluttering and not so secretly supporting my penchant for cuteness I came across this find. It has no practical use other than to plug into a computers USB port, blink its doey eyes, and sit on a wee cartoon tree stump or atop a monitor screen.

Still I want one, don't you? I mean, it's not like I already have a growing collection of solar powered toys that sit in the front window causing children to dance!

Having visited the Jelly Belly factory last weekend and seeing a vintage dentist office at the Museum of Science and industry me teeth have begun to ache.

Fear not! The next time you visit your dentist, ask them if they have the PediSedate. I mean what child or adult doesn't want to be distracted by its colorful toy-like headset while being fed nitrous oxide? Did I mention you can listen to music through it as well as video games?

A running joke between Wally and I is that Somerset is burning. This phrase became part of our daily routine after his parents had come for a visit. Somerset is the care facility across the street from us, which is a PC way of saying crazy town. There are either one of two vehicles outside this building- an ambulance, a firetruck or both. The night before his parents left, someone had started a fire and burnt down part of the awning just above street level.

The next morning Wally's mother passed our bedroom and remarked that she could still smell the fire- which incidentally had been me lighting a match after a poop. Shortly thereafter the Shirl's light bulb clicked on and I was simultaneously embarrassed. I mean his was one of the first times meeting them and all.

Designed by Samuel N. Crowen and opened in 1920 it originally had 441 furnished rooms arranged in 205 suites of one to four rooms. It was described as "the ideal dwelling place for those desiring the homelike atmosphere and privacy of an apartment combined with all the modern conveniences of a hotel."

in.ruins

I discovered the photography of Yves Marchand & Roman Meffrey via The Post Family website this afternoon. Their photographs documenting the urban ruins of Detriot immediately caught my eye. They remindined me of driving through the streets with a co-worker of many years ago and thinking "how can the city which the auto industry grew upon be in such a state?"

But there it was, many abandoned structures with Tiger Stadium rising up from the ashes.

This morning I discovered the artwork of Betsy Walton via BOOOOOOOM. Betsy is an artist who was originally from Kansas and now resides in Portland Oregon. I love the simplicity of her website and her pieces which have a sense of dark whimsy to me- plus they are extremely affordable I might ad.
