Strangers With Florrie

I have been trying to be a more organized version of me and let's face it, my email inbox runneth over. I save or file them somewhere like an old shirt that should be thrown away, but there's something about it that I just can't let go of...
Anyhow, I came across an email that Wally had sent to me. Apparently the dynamic trio of Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert had a little inspiration from one Florrie Fisher. See for yourself and enjoy her crazy non sequiturs.

It's Alive!

I've made the offhand comment on more than one occasion that Microsoft will one day be such a mega conglomerate that they will own our remains. As morbid as that sounds, it doesn't seem like a far-fetched Orwellian ideal.

At a keynote speech by Bill Gates a few years ago, he discussed the development of SPOT (Smart Personal Object Technology), a new wireless data service Microsoft was piggybacking on FM radio transmitters.

Riding the "L" one evening home from work, I sleepily looked up and there it was, Microsoft SPOT technology in the form of a coffee maker. The Melita Smart Mill & Brew Coffee Maker equipped with MSN Direct Weather. This coffeemaker will tell you all about the weather as it brews. "Drop it like it's hot!" Today is a day for some iced coffee!"

What's next? A toaster that gives you fashion advice by registering how you're reflected in it's surface or a microwave that tells you what to eat? I clearly fear that if my appliances were given these programmed traits that someday they might rebel like a bad scene out of 'Short Circuit' and I'd be left with burnt coffee, charred toast or overdone veggies.

Call me old school but I'll take mine as plug and click thank you.

Happy St. Patty's Day

A picture really does say a thousand words doesn't it?

Out of the Woods

I was tittering with joy when I saw an advert for a release party featuring Everything But The Girl vocalist Tracey Thorn. Her solo album Out of the Woods is set to drop this Tuesday on the Astralwerks label.

The party happens to be at a bar called Berlin on St. Patty's Day night which leaves me divided. I do like me some freebies, but the thought of braving inebriated throngs makes me shudder. I don't mind a drunken crowd when I'm part of them, but by that time of day I will have worked, be sober and not up to navigating through the living dead.

I've already downloaded the first single "It's All True" and I love it, her voice is still as gorgeous as ever. Can't wait to hear the rest of the tracks next week.

This Shit is Bananas

Chiquita Bananas that is. According to The Associated Press, Banana company Chiquita Brands International said Wednesday it has agreed to a $25 million fine and admited paying a Colombian terrorist group for protection in a volatile farming part of the country.

The Empresses New Clothes

Contrary to popular belief I am not Madonna obsessed. Although I am strangely fascinated by her metamorphosis from pop goddess to reptilian disco diva a la Confessions on a Dance Floor.

True to form, the Madge is back in top form with a limited edition line of clothing set to debut at an H&M store near you on March 22. The line, which Madonna helped create with design chief Margareta van den Bosch, is full of lumber jackets, blazers, kimono dresses, handbags and, of course, sunglasses with her signature M on the side.

To usher in this collection. H&M has a mini site complete with a promotional short. Glossy and tightly edited- the best way to view her. The advert portrays Madonna trying to identify what 'it' is. Clever, but sad as Madonna once seemed to know what 'it' was.
